Purpose: Standing in the gap
With nearly 25 years of professional experience in public health administration, research, and social work practice, I stand committed to improving lives, invigorating communities, and enhancing our human services systems.
Today, more than ever, our nation and our world need seasoned leaders to bring truth and healing to hurting populations. We need professionals who will stand in the gap, commit to lead from truth, and who are not swayed by cultural or political trends. We need policies and human service systems that are scientifically grounded and monitored according to common sense outcomes.
Community Practice Background
I began my professional career in social work and public health working in South Louisiana communities plagued by complex, historical, and recurring trauma. I received extensive training in maternal-child health, to shape the trajectory of young lives and families. In doing so, I helped establish mental health and substance abuse services in rural health clinics, and worked with Tulane and the state of Louisiana to establish infant mental health and early childhood programs in underserved regions.
Having served in direct individual and community-level practice, I recognized the need for policy-level, systemic change to solve real-world problems experienced by communities, families, adults and children.
Federal practice
I brought that realty with me into federal service. I took the Oath of Office on several occasions, and always remembered who and what I was fighting for and against. During the years I worked in federal service leading research, policy, and programs for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C., I kept the American people and our nation at the forefront.
Now, as I expand my career beyond the halls of government administration, I remain steadfast in my work, influenced by my faith, education, years of experience, and commitment to improve lives and quality of life.
